Resumen

Objective: To determine the relationship between self-transcendence and fear of death with self-care in older adults. Methods: correlational and predictive study in a sample of 203 older adults, selected through simple random probability sampling. A sociodemographic data sheet was used, as well as Collet-Lester scales of selftranscendence, fear of death, and the dying process. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the multiple linear regression were applied. Results: Anegative and statistically significant relationship was found between self-transcendence (p=.001) and fear of death (p=.001) with self-care, both variables predict self-care in older people (p<.000). Conclusions: Self-care is influenced by self-transcendence and fear of death due to satisfaction with one's environment. Therefore, healthcare personnel must conduct a multidimensional and comprehensive assessment and care program to ensure that older adults can promote their health in all its dimensions and consequently improve their quality of life.
