Resumen

This chapter examines the factors that contribute to the adoption of sustainable and regenerative tourism development in three pueblos in the Colca Valley of Arequipa, Peru. In each of these villages, many locals are committed to growing tourism to support sustainable development. These pueblos are in the early stages of their tourism lifecycle, and each is facing different challenges as it seeks to increase benefits from the visitor economy. This chapter examines issues associated with the adoption of sustainable and regenerative tourism in destination communities. It highlights the importance of destination community capitals as both a foundation and a rationale for sustainable and regenerative tourism. This chapter explores what tourism community stakeholders value and hope to protect and enhance as they develop tourism. As they discuss their aspirations and concerns about tourism, it is clear they seek regenerative outcomes that build on their destination's community capital.
