Resumen
Objective: To describe the behavior and trends of the scientific production of Peruvian medical societies, identify collaboration and impact patterns, and detect gaps in their research activity. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted. Articles published between 2006 and 2024 in journals indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, and SciELO were analyzed, including those with at least one author affiliated with a medical society recognized by the Peruvian Medical College. Production, collaboration, and impact indicators were evaluated. Results: A total of 105 articles from 21 out of 27 medical societies were analyzed. Publications increased from 2 articles in 2006 to 11 in 2024, with a peak of 13 publications in 2021. Original articles accounted for 32.38% (34/105) of the output, followed by narrative reviews at 24.76% (26/105). Most articles were published in national journals (64.8%) and in lower journal quartiles, predominantly Q4 (65.7%). The median number of citations was 1 (IQR: 3), with 13.0% of articles classified as highly cited and a global h-index of 9. Conclusion: The scientific production of Peruvian medical societies is heterogeneous and remains limited in terms of impact. A clear gap exists between publication volume and scientific visibility, highlighting the need to strengthen institutional policies, foster collaboration, and improve research quality.
