Resumen
Globally, it has been observed that some cities lack adequate urban planning, which leads to informal development and creates unsafe and neglected public spaces, thereby affecting urban development. A clear example is the La Primavera settlement, located in the district of Castilla, Piura, Peru, which is in a state of total neglect and suffers from deterioration and a lack of public spaces and green areas. This hinders the integration of this neighborhood with other residential areas and does not effectively promote recreation, culture, interaction, and social integration. The research employed a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative), with a sample of 369 individuals for the inferential analysis, while the qualitative analysis was based on interviews with 8 experts, including 4 international, 2 national, and 2 local experts, to identify codes, guidelines, and strategies. The results showed that the characteristics of use and activity, safety and security, comfort and image, accessibility, and connectivity of public spaces in the La Primavera Human Settlement exhibit significant deficiencies. Furthermore, Spearman’s correlation test confirmed a strong, highly positive correlation (rho = 0.803), concluding that the revitalization of public spaces has a positive influence on the sustainable urban development of the La Primavera Human Settlement.
