Resumen
The Covid-19 pandemic challenged the Peruvian government and the population in the pursuit of social well-being and health. However, deficiencies in institutional management threatened indigenous peoples. This study analyzes the response of these communities to the disease and the factors that hindered the implementation of measures. It is argued that ancestral practices allowed indigenous peoples to adopt their own measures during the health emergency. The research focused on the departments of Junin and Ucayali, with the presence of Amazonian communities, using a qualitative methodology with semi-structured interviews with community representatives, indigenous organizations and public officials. It was found that ancestral knowledge and organizational practices are fundamental for their preservation in health crises, although the threat of regression in their customs and knowledge persists, which affects their capacity to respond and survive as communities. © (2025), (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona).
