Research Competencies of Faculty in Student Scientific Production in the Engineering Area at a Peruvian University

Resumen

Introduction: Teachers' research competencies are essential for scientific production in engineering, enhancing methodology, dissemination, and research-centered teaching strategies. Methodology: This study examines the relationship between teachers' research competencies and students' capacity for scientific production at a Peruvian university, using a concurrent mixed design with content analysis and a descriptive correlational approach. Quantitative data were collected from 215 students and 25 teachers through questionnaires, and qualitative data were obtained from 8 teachers and 16 students through interviews. Results: The high positive correlation (0,815) between teaching competencies and student scientific production underscores the importance of strengthening the teaching of research methods, as well as mentorship and project management. Discussions: Four key pillars were identified: Academic Research, Technological Innovation, Training, and Social and Environmental Impact, reflecting how students apply their knowledge to create prototypes and transfer technology. Conclusions: Teachers' research competencies are key to students' scientific production in engineering, emphasizing the importance of improving teaching, mentoring, project management, and integrating research, technological innovation, and social impact.
