Remediation and monitoring methods in managing environmental risks to the ocean from oil spills: A systematic review

Cruz J.B.; Rupay J., Jr.; Alca M.E.; Velásquez A.G. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2024) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2024.1.1.1915

Resumen

In the present research, different researches obtained from a systematic search are reviewed to determine which are the most efficient bioremediation and detection methods to solve the problem caused by the oil spill in the world's oceans. This is the reason for using the PICO methodology: What detection and bioremediation methods are used in the face of an oil spill in the oceans, to determine the most efficient remediation methods to solve the problem developed worldwide in the problem addressed. Subsequently, to optimize information management, the PRISMA diagram was applied, in order to be able to select appropriate articles using the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the Scopus database, from the beginning of January 2016 to August 2023. Seventeen scientific articles directly addressing bioremediation methods and 5 articles detecting environmental risks due to oil spills in the ocean were reviewed. For this reason, this systematic review highlights three main methods of oil spill remediation: SAR method, Dispersants and Bioremediation.
