RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PGA AND MMI IN PERU USING PUBLIC OPINIONS COLLECTED FROM FACEBOOK OF EARTHQUAKES

Resumen
Currently, there is no empirical relationship between the maximum acceleration (PGA) and intensity (MMI) values of earthquakes registered in Peru; however, various authors and institutions use as a reference the research carried out in different regions of the world for the estimation of seismic parameters; likewise, these have evidenced the variation of this relationship due to the dynamic behavior that exists in each region due to its own tectonic, geological, geotechnical, instrumental and social context. The parameters obtained from this relationship are of utmost importance for studies of structural pathology, forensic civil engineering, or when there are no instrumental records of any seismic event or historical events of which only written reports are available. On the other hand, different investigations regarding social behavior have shown that Facebook has become a widely used online communication and self-representation platform, and that the use of "emoticons" are graphic representations of emotions or quasi-verbal signals of each user. Where, the inexistence of any database of perception of the Peruvian population in the face of a seismic event has led this project to carry out an exhaustive collection of the information of comments and reactions from Facebook users after a seismic event in or close to their localities, which will allow estimating the MMI intensity. Therefore, it is proposed to estimate a probabilistic relationship between the values of PGA and MMI of earthquakes that occurred between 2017 and 2020 in Peru. Using representative seismic events registered by the Center for seismic monitoring of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (CENSIS-IGP), the qualitative analysis of public opinion and reactions of the population to the reports of these events, a compilation of PGA values of each seismic event of the IGP accelerographic network database, quality control, and information purification in order to contrast the PGA values according to your locality and finally a linear regression statistical analysis that will define the relationship between the PGA values and MMI. The tools used during the process are Excel, SAC, Python, and Matlab, which allow the handling of a large amount of data and are widely used today.
