Resumen
This study correlated the nutritional intake of food intake and energy balance of 128 hospitalized oncology patients over 18 years of age. Nutritional intake was evaluated according to the ESPEN guidelines; energy balance according to WHO and FAO, using the Harris-Benedict equation to estimate energy requirement and the ESPEN guidelines for macronutrients. Pearson’s Chi-square test and Cramer’s V coefficient were applied to analyze the association between variables. It was determined that the energy intake for carbohydrates was optimal in those with chemotherapy and multimodal treatment in 70.0 and 60.7% respectively, for proteins in 62.0 and 60.7%; and for lipids in 57.0 and 50.0% respectively. It is concluded that the majority of patients with optimal macronutrient intake achieved an adequate energy balance, especially with chemotherapy treatment (p < 0.0001). The nutritional intake covered the nutritional needs of the oncologic patients attended during their hospital stay.
