Resumen
The fundamental connections between emotional intelligence and critical thinking in the Peruvian educational context are essential skills for students’ academic and personal development, enabling them to manage their emotions and analyze information reflectively. In this context, the objective of this research was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and critical thinking in secondary school students at an educational institution in Arequipa, Peru. The methodology used was a quantitative, basic, and descriptive approach, with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 70 thirdyear secondary school students, selected through census and simple random probability sampling. A survey was used as the technique and a validated questionnaire as the data collection instrument. Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software, applying the Pearson correlation coefficient. The results demonstrate that emotional intelligence enables students to effectively manage their emotions; while critical thinking fosters analysis and decision-making, contributing to the comprehensive development of students. It is concluded that there are fundamental connections between emotional intelligence and critical thinking that are stimulated in educational environments.
