Rehabilitation and Neurotherapy through Immersive Environments

Chirchi V.; Chirchi E.R.M.; Jagatheesan K.; Mourade A.; Rodriguez C.R. · Wearable AI - The Future of Continuous Health Monitoring in the Metaverse (2026) · DOI: 10.1201/9781003776291-8

Resumen

The way that virtual reality and artificial intelligence and the metaverse are coming together is changing the way we do rehabilitation and neurotherapy. We used to do rehabilitation and neurotherapy in clinics and only sometimes. Now rehabilitation and neurotherapy can be done all the time. It changes based on what the person needs. This part of the book talks about how engineers design systems for rehabilitation that use reality. It talks about how to design these systems and how to make them work well. It also talks about using machine learning and looking at data in time to make rehabilitation and neurotherapy better. The systems for rehabilitation that use reality are very important and this part of the book presents an engineering point of view on these systems. It emphasizes the design of algorithms and the architecture of the systems and the pipelines, for machine learning and the analytics that happen in time. Rehabilitation and neurotherapy are changing because of reality and artificial intelligence and the metaverse. Recent advances in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), wearable sensing, and AI-driven personalization are analysed with respect to physical rehabilitation, neurotherapy, and cognitive rehabilitation. The role of the metaverse as a persistent computational layer for continuous health monitoring, digital twins, and remote therapy orchestration is discussed. Challenges related to scalability, data security, model generalization, and ethical deployment are highlighted, followed by future research directions.
