Resumen
This paper addresses the limitations of traditional force-or Displacement-Based procedures, which do not explicitly consider energy as an indicator of soft-story irregularity. An energy-based methodology is proposed using nonlinear static (pushover) analysis to indirectly estimate dissipated energy through an equivalent maximum-amplitude cycle representative of a design-level earthquake. The approach is applied to an 11-story reinforced concrete dual wall–frame building with a soft-story condition, with input energy estimated following the Housner–Akiyama method. Results show that hysteretic energy governs the structural response. The first story exhibits stiffness ratios of 0.71–0.70 and inter-story energy ratios of 1.33–1.40, confirming a concentration of seismic demand; however, the adjacent second and third stories also display significant energy participation, indicating that inelastic demand is not strictly confined to the soft story. Overall, story energy ratios provide a consistent and complementary indicator to stiffness-based criteria for assessing seismic performance in irregular buildings.
