Resumen

The acceptance of modern myths about sexual aggression (AMMSA) scale is used in several countries, as gender-based violence increases significantly, especially after the pandemic, so it is crucial to understand its psychometric properties in different populations, as in this case with a Peruvian sample. This included 743 participants, divided into two groups: those with no recorded history of violence and those with a recorded history of intimate partner violence. Two methods were used to assess the factor structure of the AMMSA, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), to validate the structure of the scale. The results revealed a unidimensional 23-item model, which demonstrated the best parsimony and theoretical fit, supported by an alpha coefficient of 0.90. The invariance between the tested groups (gender and university) was adequate, and the assessment of convergent validity psychometrically supported the proposed model. The cut-off point was set at 65, with an area under the curve of 86.7 %. Consequently, a score ≥ 65 indicated the presence of these myths. The satisfactory results of the AMMSA allow us to evaluate and distinguish myths about sexual aggression in the Peruvian population.
