Resumen

The present study examined the psychometric properties of the Successful Aging Inventory (SAI) in a sample of Peruvian older adults using network psychometric techniques. A total of 407 older adults aged between 60 and 95 years (M = 69.5, SD = 6.7) were recruited from three Comprehensive Centers for the Elderly (CIAM) in Lima, Peru, through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Dimensionality was assessed using Exploratory Graph Analysis (EGA) with a Gaussian Graphical Model (GLASSO), while reliability was evaluated through structural consistency and item stability. Evidence based on relationships with other variables was examined using life satisfaction, depression (PHQ-9), and anxiety (GAD-7). The EGA suggested the removal of four unstable items, resulting in a three-dimensional structure composed of intrapsychic strengths, spirituality/religion, and purpose and life satisfaction. A subsequent confirmatory factor analysis supported the adequacy of the proposed model. Reliability analyses indicated a highly stable three-dimensional structure, with dimensions replicating consistently across bootstrap samples and items showing satisfactory stability within their respective communities. Furthermore, the SAI dimensions were positively associated with life satisfaction and negatively associated with anxiety and depression, supporting evidence of convergent validity. These findings indicate that the 16-item version of the SAI demonstrates adequate psychometric properties and provides a valid and reliable measure for assessing successful aging among Peruvian older adults.
