Resumen

Introduction: Haemodialysis is a renal replacement therapy which, although beneficial for patients, also has a negative impact on their psychological well-being and, consequently, on their quality of life, leading to physical, mental and social limitations. Objective: To determine the relationship between psychological well-being and quality of life in patients receiving haemodialysis. Material and Method: We conducted a descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 50 users treated in the haemodialysis area of a private clinic in Chiclayo, Peru. The Psychological Well-Being Scale and the Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) were administered. Results: A moderate and statistically significant correlation was observed between psychological well-being and quality of life in haemodialysis patients (Rho=0.520; P<0.05). The strongest correlations were found between the environment domain and physical health (Rho=0.659; P<0.05), personal growth and social relationships (Rho=0.633; P<0.05), and positive relationships and psychological health (Rho=0.612; P<0.05). Conclusions: Quality of life in patients on haemodialysis was significantly associated with psychological well-being, highlighting the influence of the environment domain, positive relationships and personal growth on different dimensions of quality of life. These findings underline the importance of considering psychological well-being in the comprehensive care of people with chronic kidney disease receiving replacement therapy.
