Psychological traces of gender violence in women attended to in Peruvian governmental institutions

Monja Odar M.N. · Clio. Revista de Historia, Ciencias Humanas y Pensamiento Critico. (2025) · DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.15659365

Resumen

Gender violence is a complex social pathology, rooted in cultural norms, in the phallocentric vision and in life learning, which generates harmful consequences on the health and integrity of women who are victims of violence. It was considered necessary to address violence in its entirety, with special emphasis on the psychological field and institutional scenarios. Therefore, this study, with a quantitative methodological orientation, analyzed the relationship between gender violence and psychological disorders of anxiety and depression in 181 women treated in governmental institutions in Piura, Peru. Among the main results were: 1) High levels of anxiety that are connected to physical, psychological and sexual violence. 2) Normalization of violence in more than 40% of women victims of different types of aggression. 3) Impact on different aspects, such as education, economy, autonomy and decision-making power. Finally, it was concluded that, beyond the statistics, there are women who are waiting to be cared for, in order to recover their rights to quality of life, integrity and health, which is consistent with the theoretical proposals of social learning, ecological theories and feminist positions.
