Resumen
The end-of-life management of lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles represents a critical technical and environmental challenge. Currently, a significant number of these units are prematurely discarded due to partial failures, despite the fact that a large proportion of their cells still retain acceptable operational conditions. In this context, the reuse of second-life batteries emerges as a strategic alternative aligned with the principles of the circular economy and energy sustainability. This paper presents a technical and design proposal for the implementation of a specialized second-life battery laboratory, focused on the diagnosis, classification, rehabilitation, and assembly of new battery packs from recovered cells. The technical foundations for unit characterization are described, detailing the required equipment, tools, and analytical instruments. Additionally, safety protocols are established to mitigate the electrical, thermal, and chemical risks inherent in their handling. The operational process flow, functional zoning of the laboratory, and a technical proposal for regulatory compliance through appropriate protection systems are also presented. The proposed laboratory model constitutes a replicable framework for the technological validation of reuse processes in controlled environments, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact and the advancement of sustainable energy solutions.
