Professional Training in Lean Six Sigma: An analysis of Yellow Belt and Green Belt Programs

Puertas M.; Yalta E.; Flores-Molina J.C. · International Conference on Quality Engineering and Management (2026)

Resumen

This study presents an analysis of two Lean Six Sigma training programmes offered by a continuing education institution in Peru: Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (LSSYB) programme, aimed at university students and recent graduates, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) programme, aimed at practising professionals. Using data collected between 2016 and 2025, statistical analyses (Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney) and segmentation techniques (k-means clustering) were applied to identify the factors influencing academic performance and to characterise the participants’ profiles. In addition, the final projects from the LSSGB programme were analysed to identify the sectors and processes most frequently addressed in improvement initiatives. The results reveal differences between the two programmes in terms of the factors affecting performance, as well as distinct profiles based on gender, age, work experience, roles and specialization. This study aims to provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness and adaptability of Lean Six Sigma training in educational and professional contexts; it also offers recommendations for the design of inclusive training programmes aligned with the principles of continuous improvement and organisational excellence.
