Resumen
This research addressed the importance of the Piura Historical Centre, a valuable resource but often neglected by both authorities and local residents. The study was based on the premise of the reference [1], who stated that "there is no future without historical awareness", and on the perspective of the reference [2] on human transcendence through built heritage. The main objective was to identify the environmental and sustainable principles of republican buildings in the 19th and early 20th century in Piura, evaluating their potential application in contemporary architecture. A quantitative and descriptive approach methodology was used, with applied research whose population universe covered the Republican Houses and the inhabitants of Piura. The analysis of environmental principles revealed that the Republican Houses incorporated sustainability criteria higher than those of the current average housing in Piura. This study not only contributed to the knowledge of the local architectural heritage, but also provided valuable insights for the sustainable revitalization of the historic center and the design of contemporary buildings more adapted to the environmental and cultural context of Piura.
