Resumen

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, severity, and associated factors of lung lesions in pigs at a slaughterhouse in the province of Huaura, Peru. The research was conducted between May and June 2023. A total of 1036 pig lungs were evaluated, classified by category (piglets, breeding stock), farm type (intensive, nonintensive), and sex (male, female). Pneumonic lesions were categorized on a scale of 0 to 5, according to the extent of pulmonary consolidation. In total, 88.2% of the lungs showed pneumonic lesions, with frequencies of 11.8, 15.2, 24.1, 22.3, 24.9, and 1.6% for grades 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Farm type, animal category, and sex were not significantly associated with the presence of lung lesions (p>0.05). ©Los autores.
