Resumen

Examination of the fetal eyes during prenatal ultrasound is an important component of the overall facial assessment. Ocular malformations are frequently associated with other fetal anomalies and are frequently part of a chromosomal or genetic condition. Therefore, their prenatal detection is important in order to establish a possible etiology and determine the long-term consequences of these anomalies. Prenatal identification of any ocular malformation should prompt an extensive examination of the face, central nervous system, and other body organs in order to provide parents with adequate counseling. This chapter analyzes the main clinical characteristics of ocular malformations and provides a clinical classification to be incorporated in the prenatal evaluation of these cases.
