Resumen
The Santa Ana Church, built in 1553 in Barrios Altos, Lima, is a paradigmatic example of seismic vulnerability in heritage buildings. Its antiqueness, lack of modern reinforcements, and the natural deterioration of the bricks and masonry considerably increase the risk of damage in an urban environment with high seismic activity. This paper presents a combined methodology to quantify the seismic vulnerability of the Santa Ana Church using: (1) a rapid visual assessment based on FEMA P-154, and (2) a modal spectral analysis implemented in SAP2000. The FEMA 154 format is used to obtain a rapid vulnerability indicator based on visual inspections and construction parameters. The results indicate that the building complies with the Peruvian code’s maximum allowable drift (≤ 0.005 m); however, the column–dome junction exceeds allowable shear and requires local reinforcement.
