Playing with fire in a powder keg. The Haitian left in the process of consolidation and decline of the Latin American left (1991-2021)

Alvarado C.B. · Araucaria (2024) · DOI: 10.12795/araucaria.2024.i56.14

Resumen

This article seeks to recount the development, evolution and disintegration of leftist political groups in Haiti, from the democratic transition to the present, within the framework of recent Haitian political history. Likewise, the relationship of the policies proposed and executed by these movements and their relationship with the objectives of the organizations of the international left will be examined, especially the Sao Paulo Forum (FSP) and the entities sponsored by Chavismo, such as ALBA and Petrocaribe. We will seek to answer what was the action of the Haitian left, and the relationships it had with the Latin American left, in the crisis that Haiti is experiencing from 2018 to the present and that claimed the life of its young leader Jovenel Moïse, leaving the country in a anarchic situation.
