Resumen
Introduction: The measurement parameters of a physiological nature in animal models against an experimental infection; They are necessary as descriptors that help a correct comparative evaluation in the face of an infectious pathology. Objective: To determine the physiological parameters of the Rattus norvegicus var. albinus in the face of an experimental infection by isolates of Giardia lamblia. Methods: Presenting an experimental design to be applied to a sample of 10 rats where an acclimatization phase and an infection induction phase and study of its expression in physiological parameters were developed, which were standardized; the norms of care and animal welfare that bioethics demands were taken into account. Results: The physiological parameters of the animal model Rattus norvegicus var. albinus evaluated against an experimental infection by isolates of Giardia lamblia were the Body Mass Index with a value of 0.377 g/cm2 that was reduced to 0.32 g/cm2, the weight of 255 g that was reduced to 200 gr; The coproparasitological examination showed the presence of trophozoites (0-5059 trophozoites/30 days of feces collection) and cysts (0-2293 cysts/15 days of feces collection) and was also evaluated histopathologically, demonstrating a higher frequency of trophozoites in the duodenum and cysts in the distal ileum. Conclusions: The physiological parameters in the rat related to the body mass index are altered, decreasing, and changes are also evident at the histopathological and coproparasitological level during the experimental Giardia infection.
