PHYSICAL-MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF COMPRESSED EARTH BLOCKS STABILIZED WITH DIFFERENT PERCENTAGES OF RICE HUSKS AND SAWDUST

Aquino Rafael J.; Miguel Angel M.M.; Roberto Mosqueira Ramírez H. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2025) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2025.1.1.953

Resumen

In Peru, adobe is the second most used material in the construction of houses, however, it is one of the least resistant construction materials, which is why additions or compaction techniques are used to improve its properties. The research consists of determining the physical-mechanical properties of the compressed earth blocks by adding different percentages of rice husks and sawdust. The research was carried out by comparing the properties of the unstabilized standard block with a block with the addition of 1%, 3% and 5% of rice husks or sawdust. To carry out the tests, prismatic blocks of 300x150x80 mm were made, which were then tested at the age of 28 days. The addition of 5% of rice husks presents an increase of: 72,19 % of capillary absorption, 58,72 % of total immersion absorption, 72,05 % of erosion, 91,13 % of compressive strength and 7,49 % of flexural strength; on the other hand, with 5% sawdust it presents an increase of 41,75 % in absorption by capillarity, 29,11 % in absorption by total immersion, 22,50 % in erosion, 64,64 % in compressive strength and 6,85 % in flexural strength. Finally, it was concluded that blocks stabilized with rice husks are the most recommended for housing construction because they have a higher compressive strength, exceeding the minimum resistance of adobe established in the E.080 Standard.
