Resumen
In poetry, there is a strong relationship between expression and content. Dámaso Alonso even said that in a poetic text, the sign is not arbitrary: a necessary correlation between signifier and signified, sound and sense, is established. Our phono-stylistic analysis will show how Francisco de Quevedo in his sonnet “Memoria inmortal de don Pedro Girón, duque de Osuna, muerto en la prisión”, takes advantage of rhythm and sound to achieve the poetic efficiency that Borges so admired.
