Resumen
The aim of this study was to isolate, characterize and identify the Shewanella algae bacteria from internal organ samples of diseased tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), which were cultivated using biofloc technology in Lima, Peru; In addition, the histopathological changes caused by the pathogen were described. In total, 85 tilapias were sampled that presented clinical signs of disease such as exophthalmia, melanosis and erratic swimming. Seven bacterial strains were isolated, which were characterized through biochemical tests and confirmed as S. algae using the PCR technique and sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The strains showed antibiotic susceptibility to florfenicol, nalidixic acid, gentamicin, flumequine, kanamycin and sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim. The histopathological findings were interlamellar hyperplasia, epicarditis, myocarditis, enteritis, necrosis in the stomach and congestion in various tissues.
