PERUVIAN MANGO EXPORTS. A REVIEW DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Gonzales Cabrera S.T.; Quille Quille L.; Paricela Huancollo C.; Calsin Turpo J.R. · Universidad y Sociedad (2022)

Resumen

International sales of Peruvian mango increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, as it is a climacteric fruit with excellent sen-sory characteristics and one of Peru’s main non-traditional export products. The research was developed through exploration and data collection, where the global mango production and export panorama and its contribution to the Peruvian economy were analyzed, and at the same time, the new challenges that this productive sector will face during and after the Covid-19 pandemic were identified. Peru is the third largest exporter of mango globally and the third largest producer in Latin America. The value of Peru’s agricultural exports increased by 6.7% due to the increase in the export of Peruvian non-traditional products during 2020, which represents a positive economic impact in times of pandemic. The acceptance of mango and the increase in the habit of consuming foods beneficial to health, has favored the growth of its consumption in international markets.
