Resumen
Each child is a unique individual with physical, mental, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Different physiological, psychological and pathogenic features occur at the different ages from the premature newborn infant through adolescence. The greatest worldwide challenge today remains the health of our children, which determines the social, educational and economic growth of all nations. Children bear a disproportionate burden of preventable diseases, with around six million children under the age of five dying each year. With a people and person-centred approach including improved perinatal support and practical, low-cost interventions around two-thirds of child deaths are preventable. As an example, 20% of these deaths worldwide could be avoided if WHO feeding guidelines including exclusive breastfeeding for at least 6 months were followed. Medical care needs to start with the child and support systems that maintain the integration of all those elements upon which health and wellbeing are founded. Only the context will differ within different countries. An integrated person-centred approach to childcare is the most effective measure to improve children's health and wellbeing worldwide © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023. All rights reserved.
