Resumen

The aim of this study was to determine the persistence of maternal antibodies against field influenza A virus (IAV) in pigs from a high-tech farm in Lima. A multi-site pig farm with a history of respiratory problems and positive for IAV by real-time RT-PCR was identified. In total, 342 blood samples were taken from 38 pigs in 9 sampling periods (21, 35, 55, 72, 85, 102, 117, 131 and 144 days of age). A commercial blocking ELISA kit was used to detect antibodies against the IAV nucleoprotein. Maternally derived antibodies (MDA) were detected in 18.4% (7/38) of piglets at 21 days and in 10.5% (4/38) at 35 days of age. Antibodies were not detected from the third to the ninth sampling (55 to 144 days). Of the 7 seropositive animals at 21 days of age, 4 remained seropositive at the second sampling. ©Los autores.
