Peri: Retrofitting Public Infrastructure into Adaptive Social Interfaces for Sustainable Habits

Mejia-Trebejo E.E.; Vilca M.; Patiño A.; Peña D. · Companion Proceedings of the 21st ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction, HRI Companion 2026 (2026) · DOI: 10.1145/3776734.3794617

Resumen

Passive infrastructure fails to bridge the recycling”Intention-Action” gap. This paper presents Peri V2, a”Symbiotic Retrofit” kit that transforms standard 120L bins into intelligent pedagogical agents without structural waste. The architecture deploys edge-based perception to execute a novel behavioral loop: a Temporal Intention Filter (5s heuristic) to parse social signals, Just-in-Time Associative Feedback for cognitive reinforcement, and Ludic Generalization challenges to verify learning transfer. A preliminary”in-the-wild” pilot (N ˜ 200) demonstrated the operational feasibility of the intention filter in noisy environments. Furthermore, qualitative feedback from recurring users (N ˜ 15) suggests that replacing voice interactions with visual cues improves acceptance by minimizing the social pressure of public disposal. Peri V2 proposes a scalable model for frugal HRI, shifting the focus from automated cities to empowered”Smart Citizens”.
