Resumen
The Honorio Delgado Espinoza Regional Hospital (HRHDE) is one of the most important hospitals in southern Peru, being a regional and macroregional reference hospital of category III. It was inaugurated on July 18th 1960, before the publication of the first Peruvian seismic design code in 1970, added to the fact that it has not suffered any structural intervention through the years. The earthquake that occurred on June 23, 2001(Mw 8.2), is considered as one of the events that caused significant damage in the buildings in the city of Arequipa (Peru), especially to essential structures such as hospitals and health centres. In this research project, the seismic performance has been studied with the determination of the performance point to estimate vulnerability using fragility curves. In the cases analysed, the response of the hospital evaluated indicates considerable damage in the structure elements.
