Resumen

Purpose: To determine the degree of correlation between perceptions of pollution and environmental attitudes of university students. Theoretical framework: Supported by the literature on perceptions of environmental pollution: air, soil, and water pollution, as well as environmental attitudes. Method/design/approach: This was quantitative research with a non-experimental approach, the research design was cross-sectional correlational. The population consisted of 1160 students, taking a probability sample of 289 students, to whom two instruments were applied, the first was the test of perceptions about environmental pollution, whose reliability was calculated by Cronbach's Alpha coefficient α = 0,841 and the second was the Likert scale for environmental attitudes whose reliability was α = 0,701. To analyze the data, the Kolmogorov-Smirnova normality test was used to apply the Spearman's Rho correlation inferential statistic and find the existing correlation coefficient (rs). Results and conclusion: The results certify the considerable degree of positive correlation, whose value was rs = 0,825 between the study variables, with a significance level of ρ = 0,000. The conclusion is that there is a positive correlation between the perceptions of environmental pollution and the environmental attitudes of university students, which is why they should assume positive attitudes regarding environmental problems in order to preserve the environment through ecological behavior and environmental awareness. Originality/value: It reveals the perceptions of university students on the problem of environmental pollution in order to assume favorable attitudes towards it, with a sustainable education.
