Resumen

Objective: Scientific research is a fundamental process in the search for knowledge and the advancement of society. In this context, thesis counseling plays a crucial role in guiding and supporting students in their journey towards the creation of new knowledge. However, sometimes this process is affected by the presence of a worrying and harmful phenomenon: the mistreatment of the thesis adviser. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the perception of mistreatment of thesis counselors in the professional career of education of a public Peruvian university. Method: The research was developed under a quantitative approach, a non-experimental design and was descriptive - transversal. The sample consisted of 209 thesis counselors who responded to the Scale of Thesis Counselor Abuse, an instrument with adequate levels of validity and reliability. Results: According to the perception of the counselors, 40.2% consider that the level of abuse is low, 38.3% claim that it is moderate and 21.5% indicate that it is high. On the other hand, it was established that the mistreatment occurred mainly by the thesis advisers, the thesis juries and to a lesser extent, by the administrative staff. Conclusions: According to the perception of the thesis counselors, the level of abuse was low, which was mainly given by their advisers. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness of the people involved in the process of developing theses about the role they perform and adopt behaviors of openness, support, dialog and understanding vis-à-vis the theists without neglecting the objectivity and rigor that should always characterize them.
