Particle in a Box Under an External Field and Schrödinger Cat

Nieto-Chaupis H. · International Conference on Engineering and Emerging Technologies, ICEET (2025) · DOI: 10.1109/iceet67911.2025.11424078

Resumen

Commonly, in a first course of quantum mechanics for engineers, it is taught the case of free particle in a box by which the solutions turn out to be sinusoid and the energies proportional to integer number by demonstrating the character quantitative of quantum mechanics. In this paper it is presented the case in which particle has direct interaction with an external field inside box, independent of its magnitude that can be weak or strong, the energies are calculated. Various scenarios of field polarization are presented. The calculations and energies are comparable to free particle case. The resulting states are finally compared to well-known Schrödinger's cat where particle while interacts with light is seen as alive cat and when momentum is null inside box is equivalent to a death cat. Simulations are centered in the plane momentum-position. Beyond the allowed size of box, the interaction matter-light emerges having a value not null even when momentum of particle is zero inside box.
