Resumen
In the healing practices of the guayacundos from the Piura Mountains, oral literature plays a fundamental role related to the ancestral knowledge of that region’s peoples. The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between the manifestations of oral literature and the healing practices of the guayacundos in the traditional medicine of Huancabamba. To this end, we study the function of invocations, prayers and songs in the ceremonial discourse of the guayacundos. Additionally, we analyze the participation of religious and mythical thinking in the healing ritual. Findings include that different genres of oral tradition are the foundations of the ceremonial discourse of Huancabamba healers.
