Optimizing Vehicle Routing with Quantum Computing

Padukone S.G.; Rodriguez C. · Qubits Unveiled: Quantum Computing Solutions for Efficient Supply Logistics (2026)

Resumen

The logistics routing issue serves as a barrier in logistics, involving the optimization of routes to minimize transportation costs and delivery times. The algorithms that were used traditionally could be used to solve smaller-scale problems. Flexibility and algorithmic complexity are significant challenges related to traditional algorithms in the present-day technology. Quantum computing is a valuable tool for addressing many of the challenges the real world faces today. It can handle a large dataset that can run in parallel. Quantum computing effectively utilizes the Quantum Approximate Optimization algorithm to resolve the vehicle routing problem (VRP), particularly in new cities, where individuals are traveling on highways, providing accurate insights to drivers alongside Google Maps. The program performance is good compared to traditional methods. The efficient operation of vehicles within the planned budget and the effectiveness of vehicle routing can be achieved by utilizing quantum computing methods. Quantum computing has revolutionized many problems related to vehicle routing. By using VRP, the timeframe required for transmitting data from the source to the destination can be minimized. Noisy models will also be considered a key element in using this proposed methodology. Even heterogeneous methods are used in solving QAOA-based algorithms. The results are compared with those of classical methods and the proposed method using Quantum Annealing with D-Wave. Here, the Quantum Optimization algorithm (QAOA) will be used to optimize various parameters, including speed, Routing, and efficiency. The algorithm creates Nodes, Edges, and routes, and provides a straightforward solution to the end user on a time-to-time basis. The Routing will be converted to binary Constraints, and then the Output will be displayed graphically. Every time the source node will be relocated & the distance to the destination will be indicated to the drivers.
