Resumen
Energy consumption in higher education institutions is a growing challenge for operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. This study presents a comprehensive diagnosis of electricity and lighting consumption at the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Trujillo (UNT), with the aim of optimizing energy management, reducing costs, and mitigating environmental impacts. The methodology included measurements of power quality, illuminance, currents, voltages, waveforms, grounding systems, and insulation resistance, using precision instruments such as network analyzers, thermal imaging cameras, lux meters, tellurium meters, and megohmmeters. The results show an average flicker of 55 units (limit <1), total harmonic distortion (THD) of 7% (limit <5%), phase imbalance, and illuminance levels below the 300-lux recommended by international standards. Based on these findings, the proposed improvements implementation of LED lighting, automatic capacitor banks, load balancing, smart monitoring systems, and the integration of renewable energies are expected to reduce electricity consumption by 25-30% annually and mitigate approximately 120 tons of CO emissions per year. These measures will not only decrease operational costs but also strengthen institutional sustainability, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 7 and 9)
