ON THE EPISTEMIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE MIGRANT LOGOS SO AS TO CIRCUMVENT OUR HERMENEUTIC RESTRICTIONS

Villarreal J.F. · Universidad y Sociedad (2022)

Resumen

This paper attempts to explain the dynamics on which the epistemic suppression of the migrants’ voice rests for the host society. In this sense, we will inquire into the opportunity costs that such suppression would entail for such society. In such a vein, migrants are in a much more favorable position than the host society itself so as to account for the universe of expe-riences, perspectives and representations of reality that could be used to develop public policies aimed at protecting and promoting the rights of such a group. In this sense, this paper embraces the premise according to which hegemonic com-munities, in most cases, adhere to an inherently conservative and solipsistic exegesis of reality in relation to the possibility of considering the otherness dictum (in this case, represented by migrants), a reason that explains why the participation of those groups that are customarily marginalized from any debate or public deliberation represents, in itself, an imperative that is not only democratic but also epistemically dire.
