Resumen
This study examines the economic strategies employed by the Cantas (Peru) to fulfill the tribute imposed by the Spanish Crown in the 16th century. Through the analysis of three key moments of fiscal oversight —the visits of 1549 and 1553, and the retasa of 1591— the forms of payment in silver and in kind, as well as their distribution, are observed. It is proposed that territorial management facilitated the integration of inherited practices from the Inca order with new strategies developed within the viceregal context.
