Resumen
Objective. To establish the relationship between accident characteristics and occupational accidents among healthcare personnel in hospitals in Huánuco during 2024-2025. Methods. A quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample consisted of 180 healthcare workers from different public hospitals in Huánuco, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. A structured questionnaire validated by expert judgment was applied, with descriptive and inferential statistical analysis performed using SPSS v27 software. Results. A total of 63.3% of the surveyed healthcare personnel reported having suffered at least one occupational accident in 2024-2025, with needlestick and sharp injuries being the most frequent (47.4%), followed by falls (21.1%) and exposure to biological fluids (15.8%). The areas with the highest incidence were emergency, hospitalization, and surgical center. Additionally, 21.9% of the affected workers did not report the accident to the corresponding authorities, and 16.7% reported emotional impact after the event. A significant relationship was identified between the type of accident and the work area. Conclusion: Occupational accidents constitute a persistent problem among healthcare personnel in hospitals in Huánuco. It is necessary to implement specific preventive strategies, strengthen biosafety protocols, and improve post-accident reporting and care systems, especially in the most critical hospital service areas.
