Resumen

Common wastes in farms dedicated to cow milk production include bovine manure and dry forage. Circular economy is essential to prevent waste of residues and avoid environmental pollution. Many agricultural companies lack a method to utilize the waste they generate, and during decomposition these residues release pollutants such as greenhouse gases. The main objective of this research was to compare biogas production using bovine manure and dry forage from Agropecuaria “Los Luises,” located at 8° 2'45.51"S; 79° 7'59.57"W, as well as to evaluate the performance of the pretreatments applied through anaerobic fermentation, in order to determine the significant differences between both substrates in biogas production. The pretreatments used were specific to each substrate, aiming to reduce the methanogenic fermentation time and increase methane concentration in the biogas. The results show that biogas production had higher yield with bovine manure compared to dry forage, with an average methane production of 603.75 mL/L and 752.5 mL/L at dilutions of 1:4 and 1:5, respectively, compared to the average methane production of dry forage, which was 396.67 mL/L and 533.75 mL/L at dilutions of 1:4 and 1:5, respectively, both measured over a 30-day anaerobic treatment period. © LEIRD 2025.All rights reserved.
