Resumen
Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a condition of the respiratory system, it is the seventh cause of health problems evaluated in terms of disability-adjusted life years, negatively impacting the quality of life of the person. Objective: To present a clinical nursing case for the care of a person with exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Methods: This case study describes the nursing care applied to an older adult with a diagnosis of exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, under the methodology of the nursing care process in its five stages. Marjory Gordon's functional patterns served as the basis for the assessment, nursing diagnoses were formulated with the NANDA I 2021-2023 taxonomy and prioritized with the current expected outcome analysis model proposed by Pesut and Herman. The planning, execution, and evaluation phases were carried out with the classification of nursing outcomes and the classification of nursing interventions. Results: 6 nursing diagnoses were identified and prioritized with their respective outcomes and interventions in personalized plans: ineffective breathing pattern, decreased activity tolerance, ineffective health self-management, chronic affliction, risk of vascular trauma, and risk of fall. Conclusions: The nursing care process provided a structured and systematic approach to address the specific care needs of the person with exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, enabling their recovery and improving their quality of life.
