NONLINEAR CONTROL WITH FEEDBACK LINEARIZATION FOR ADCS IN 2U CUBESAT: LQR-BASED CONTROL STRATEGY

Chávez R.; Palacios J.; Castro F.; Contreras J.; Agapito J.; Segundo J.; Joo G. · Proceedings of the International Astronautical Congress, IAC (2025) · DOI: 10.52202/083087-0138

Resumen

This work presents the design and validation of an Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) for a 2U CubeSat using nonlinear feedback linearization combined with a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). The approach cancels gyroscopic coupling and applies optimal control on a linearized subsystem, achieving settling times below 7 seconds, overshoot under 1%, and control torques within actuator limits in representative simulation scenarios. Compared with conventional PID and LQR controllers, the method delivers faster responses, smoother transients, and reduced control effort, providing a practical and cost-effective solution for CubeSat missions requiring rapid detumbling and precise pointing without relying on complex star-tracker systems.
