Resumen
This work presents the nonlinear calibration of a confined masonry wall based on quasi-static cyclic tests reported in national literature, and its subsequent parametric material analysis according to NTP E.070. The numerical model was developed in ETABS using shell elements for the masonry face and confining frames, plastic shear hinges with pivot hysteresis, and a trilinear backbone curve adjusted by inversion (α₁, α₂, β₁, β₂, η). The calibration was performed iteratively to reproduce force-displacement hysteresis loops, prioritizing (i) maximum load capacity, ( ii ) peak secant stiffness, and ( iii ) post-peak degradation / pinching. Using the calibrated model, scenarios were constructed by substituting unit, prism, and wall properties derived from the E.070 Characteristic Strength Table (e.g., “Handcrafted King Kong,” “Industrial King Kong,” “Industrial Lattice,” “Normal,” and “Daedalus”), while maintaining the geometry and experimental loading history. The results show that the procedure consistently reproduces the experimental envelope and captures the degradation mechanisms, and that normative strength variations have a nonlinear effect on initial stiffness, cycle-to-cycle energy dissipation, and overall ductility μ. This work proposes a replicable workflow to (a) translate laboratory data into practical design models and (b) quantify the sensitivity of the seismic response to the selection of the masonry type specified in the standard.
