Non-operative management of congenital umbilical hernia using a double self-adhesive patch: case report

Ocampo Anduaga E.; Salvador Díaz Gálvez A. · Revista del Cuerpo Medico Hospital Nacional Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo (2026) · DOI: 10.35434/rcmhnaaa.2026.192.3026

Resumen

Introduction: Umbilical hernia is a relatively common condition in the pediatric population. However, research on its natural history and indications for the appropriate timing of surgical treatment remains inconsistent. Case Report: We present the cases of two infants diagnosed with congenital umbilical hernia who were treated conservatively with a double reduction patch, achieving closure of the hernial defect very quickly, at 21 and 24 days, respectively. Conclusion: This novel technique is simple, easily reproducible, very low cost, and when used continuously, can achieve complete resolution of congenital umbilical hernia in very short periods.
