Resumen
Objective: To determine the association of nomophobia with anxiety in human medicine students at the Universidad Peruana Los Andes. Methods: Observational, analytical, and cross-sectional research design; the sample was 292 students from the first to the tenth cycle, sociodemographic characteristics, nomophobia with the NMP-Q instrument and anxiety with the GAD-7 were evaluated. The Chi-square test was used to determine the association. Results: Of the respondents, 181 (61.99 %) were female, the most frequent age range was 18-20 years (57.88 %) and the mean age was 20.45 ± 2.20 years. The prevalence of nomophobia was 95.89%, the age category of 18-20 years presented the widest range in the nomophobia score (20-140), the highest average was presented by the sixth cycle with 71.49 ± 41.26 and the male sex with 67.11± 36.81. On the other hand, the results showed that the prevalence of anxiety was 82.19%, the highest average was presented by the female sex with 10.11 ± 4.50, the age category of 18-20 with 10.38 ± 5.03 and the fifth cycle with 10.78 ± 4.30. Conclusions: A statistically significant relationship was found between the prevalence and degrees of nomophobia and anxiety (p<0.001). It is concluded that nomophobia and anxiety are frequent problems among medical students and a relationship is suggested that is important to consider.
