Resumen
Chilean Flamingo, Phoenicopterus chilensis Molina, 1782, inhabits the Andes and is listed as Near Threatened by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance and Junin National Reserve conducted field and drone surveys for P. chilensis in Lake Junin, Peru. Nests were found along muddy shorelines, with one area showing a high concentration of nests, chicks, and adult individuals. These results indicate significant temporal changes in population structure and nesting conditions, highlighting the utility of drone surveys for monitoring high-Andean waterbird colonies and informing conservation strategies for P. chilensis in this critical breeding habitat.
