New destinations for Peruvian asparagus (Asparagus officinalis)

Resumen

Asparagus generates foreign currency for Peru; however, it depends too much on the U.S. market, therefore new destinations are evaluated. It is proved that there are profitable alternative destinations for Peruvian asparagus by analyzing macroeconomic variables, profitability with gross profit and export risk, in a risk environment, applying @Risk software, and the incidence of FOB (Free on Board) price and export costs on the profitability of asparagus exports. It was found that the best destinations for exporting Peruvian asparagus according to risk-weighted profitability are: Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Italy and South Korea. It is recommended that this analysis be carried out for other products and markets.
