Resumen

Objective: To establish the relationship between the consumption of naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and paracetamol and the development of gastritis in an adult population. Methods: A hypothetical-deductive, quantitative, cohort study with a non-experimental design was conducted. Each variable was assessed using its respective instrument, and data collection forms were used. A sample size of 7,019 medical records was estimated. To calculate the appropriate sample size, population limits were used according to Cochran’s 1977 guidelines, ensuring that the results had a margin of error of no more than 5%. A total of 311 medical records of adult patients (40 to 85 years old) who were treated at the center between January and July 2021 were studied. Results: A significant association was found between the consumption of naproxen (NSAID) and paracetamol and gastritis in the adults treated. Patients diagnosed with gastritis (59.3%) used naproxen (NSAID) or paracetamol during the study period. 77.8% used paracetamol, while the remaining 22.2% used naproxen. Conclusions: The results indicate a relationship between the use of these medications and gastritis, highlighting the need for controlled medical prescription in clinical practice.
